Google is testing labels in mobile search results that indicate if a website is slow. The red label warns users before they click into a site that it may load slowly, according to areport by SearchEngineLand.
Website loading speed has been considered in Google’s search ranking since 2012.
As mobile devices become the main tool for users accessing the Internet and performing online tasks, how websites look and function on mobile devices will become even more important. If Google rolls out its slow label feature in search results, website owners will have to consider loading speed on all devices or risk users abandoning their site before even clicking through to it.
This could bring opportunities to companies that provide mobile optimization and website optimization services, and for hosting providers to partner with these providers in order to offer customers faster loading sites.
Last year, a study showed that only three percent of all websites are both fast and responsive on mobile devices.
